Wertheim-am-Main
The perfectly preserved market town of Wertheim is situated in a beautiful valley where the rivers Main and Tauber converge. The centre has retained many wonderful examples of medieval 'Fachwerk' architecture which are particularly enjoyable to draw. The ruins of a castle on the nearby hill also give the town a special romantic atmosphere. This picturesque region of Germany has long been a favourite with artists, most notably in the 1920s when the painters Otto Modersohn and Louise Modersohn-Breiling visited.
